The 21st century entertainment industry has evolved into a much simpler and accessible style. Nowadays, videos with “amateur” qualities are capable of providing the same kind of entertainment to an audience, and is a fundamental part of pop culture. This video is an imitation of “Mukbang”, an interactive broadcast of people eating a certain kind and quantity of food. Despite its informal nature, “Mukbangs” are currently one of the most popular videos online. Ultimately, it fascinated me how influencers use Youtube to commercialize the food that they eat, while also commercializing themselves. The video that I created possesses all the qualities of entertainment that receives popularity in this generation: filming in domestic areas, real-time interactions with the viewers, and editing the video in a trendy, yet low-quality format. I intended for this piece to expose how amateur works are emerging mainstream content, and how much this pop culture has progressed today.
